| Knotts of Newtownards is a family-owned, craft bakery situated in the centre of a busy, provincial town in County Down, Northern Ireland. Established in 1979, by Michael and Greta Knott, upon entering the flourishing bakery it is clear that this is a craft bakery with a difference.
The business quickly out-grew their original premises and five years later, the family invested in a 5,500 ft² shop set in a magnificent Victorian building. At the time, this was a huge risk for the family but it has paid dividends. The bakery was recently refurbished and combines period features with contemporary style. (For example, there is several plasma TVs on the walls, advertising not only their own extensive product range, but other local companies’ products and services.)
At the front of the shop, there is a large bakery counter and a number of self-service units with freshly-made cakes, bread, sandwiches, soups and ready-meals. At the rear, there is a bright and spacious coffee shop and restaurant, which seats 160.
